Hey Bulldog: Ad Hoc’s beefy Ducati Multistrada

There’s no conventional beauty in the oddball creations of David Gonzalez. But there’s a steady demand for the unusual bikes that roll out of his garage in Barcelona Spain.

The latest is ‘HyperRoad’ a muscular Ducati Multistrada with a powerful stance. “The commission came from a guy who’s big Ducati fan” says David. “He’d seen our ‘Haptica‘ Multistrada and wanted something similar. Instead I proposed something ‘different!'”

Soon after a 2008-spec Multistrada 1100 DS arrived in the Ad Hoc workshop already equipped with fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension.

Given the exceptional handling of the stock bike David focused his attention first on the tank and seat unit. “I knew what I wanted to do with the back end so I started looking for a vintage tank. We ended up with one from a 1960s Ducati 250 T.”

After a few subtle tweaks—including a cut-and-shut to narrow the profile—the tank slotted neatly on top of the Multistrada frame. It now hides the fuel pump the ECU and a compact lithium battery.

To slim things down even further David has removed the airbox added power filters and retuned the fueling to suit.

Looks were never the strong point of the original Multistrada so the fairing is thankfully gone and the oil cooler moved further down the frame.

The bars are from Easton best known for their cycling components. They’re a 35mm high-rise fitment with compact mirrors installed on the ends. There’s a minimal 7-inch headlight mounted on a custom bracket and a custom fender support bracket just below. David has kept the original instruments: “It gives us all the information and also manages the Magneti Marelli ECU.”

David’s modified the rear subframe to keep it symmetrical with the front creating a distinctive ‘V’ effect. The neat stubby seat is upholstered in Alcantara and there’s a matching one for a passenger ready to slot straight in behind.

Then everything went off the to powder coaters for a stunning dark grey finish with a brilliant black overcoat.

It’s a custom that defies genres with a unique look and a visually confronting bulldog stance. It sure ain’t pretty—but with around 100 horsepower on tap it’ll be a blast to ride.
